Knitting in the Summer: Snowdrift Cardigan

The Turquoise Drift

Pattern: Snowdrift Cardigan, design by Michele Rose Orne, from Inspired to Knit: Creating Exquisite Handknits.

Yarn: Cascade Jewel, in turquoise.  I fell in love with the yarn and the color, even though I knew I was going to have trouble finding the right project for this hand-dyed thick-and-thin almost-bulky weight yarn.  And I was right.  As with most of my projects, this yarn has been through other incarnations, none of them satisfactory. . . .

Thoughts: . . . .  and this jacket was no exception.  The yarn does not drape, and it is surprisingly heavy.  So the cardigan grew, and grew — especially the sleeves.  I feel like I am wearing muffs.  On the other hand, I love the idea of the big cabled collar and the big cabled cuffs, and it was a fun knit  — it’s just that the final cardigan is too big for me, and awkward to wear.  Nevertheless, I think I will wear it (at least a couple of times) for no other reason than for its dramatic value 🙂
